The AMSP is changing from 1 April 2025.

Changes to the programme are set out below. We are working to update the AMSP website to reflect these changes; in the meantime, all continuing courses and events will be advertised there as usual.

Which parts of the programme remain the same?

Support for teachers

Professional development courses

The AMSP will continue to offer a range of professional development for teachers of AS/A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, Core Maths and higher tier GCSE Mathematics.

We will continue to offer:

  • Extended courses
  • Subject Knowledge Live courses
  • On Demand Professional Development
  • Courses and one-day conferences, offering face-to-face support
  • Core Maths online meetings and networks
  • Courses to help teachers prepare their students for university entrance tests
Core Maths Platform

Access to Core Maths Platform resources will continue to be available to registered schools.

Maths Hub Work Groups and Programmes

We will continue collaborating with Maths Hubs to offer level 3 Work Groups and programmes.

Trainee teachers

We will also continue to offer support for trainee teachers on aspects of teaching level 3 maths, through ITT providers.

Support for students

The programme will continue to provide free access to a range of study packages and resources that support students.

We will continue to offer:

  • online tuition in AS/A level Further Mathematics to students, where this is not available in their school or college
  • an online, self-taught course to support students’ transition from GCSE Mathematics to A level Mathematics or Core Maths
  • resources and information about studying level 3 maths qualifications
  • resources and information about studying maths and other STEM subjects at university

Which parts of the programme are changing?

Three new programmes for schools/colleges and students

The AMSP will now offer three new programmes designed specifically to support students, and particularly girls and those in schools with high levels of disadvantage, to progress in advanced maths and beyond. 

Local support for schools

We are moving from a local network of Area Coordinators (ACs) to a team of AMSP Local Leads who will work closely with the Maths Hubs to support AMSP objectives.

Priority Area support

Priority Area Support will change from 1 April 2025. We plan to continue providing individual support for schools; however, the form of this support and who it will target is under review. Further information about targeting and eligibility will become available in due course.

Student support for progression to university mathematics

The following support for students aiming to study maths at university will be provided directly by MEI:

  • Problem Solving Matters
  • Tuition for the MAT, STEP and TMUA university entrance tests
  • Online, self-study courses for the MAT and TMUA university entrance tests (in development)
