ReadFollowing the lockdown announcement and correspondence from the DfE/Ofqual regarding assessment and grading for summer 2020, we received many emails from teachers in our region asking if there would be an opportunity for them to meet with others to discuss the situation for Core Maths students.
ReadIt feels like a lifetime ago but, back in March, the AMSP was still running face-to-face teacher professional development events.
ReadBack in March, when the UK lockdown was just beginning, I was tinkering with GeoGebra and was reminded of GeoGebra’s ability to solve differential equations by Juan Carlos Ponce Campuzano, who tweeted a link to his awesome SIR model where GeoGebra did all the heavy lifting of solving the differential equations.
ReadIn these days of social distancing and isolation, our working days have changed immensely. The days of seeing up to 150 (or more) students per day – with all their chatter and eagerness to learn – even after the Easter break, seem like fond and distant memories.
ReadI was delighted to have Ted Graham (AMSP Associate and Mechanics Maestro) run a series of four practical sessions on mechanics for A level Mathematics teachers at Hardenhuish School in Chippenham.
ReadThe Senior Team Mathematics Challenge (STMC) heat in Poole on 3 December was a great success, with over 20 teams taking part and all three top positions going to state-funded schools!
ReadAs well as the various AMSP courses and events on offer throughout the year, the AMSP are also working with the Maths Hubs on the Level 3 Maths Work Groups.
ReadThe recent teacher network meetings in the South West have focused on the use of GeoGebra in the A Level classroom, problem solving in Level 3 maths and a review of last summer’s examinations, specifically how the A level examinations have altered due to the changes in the syllabus.
