The Maths of Data Science and AI (teachers)

Artificial Intelligence is shaping the future, and it’s built on the mathematics you’re already teaching – now discover how to make those connections clear, engaging, and relevant for your students.

The Maths of Data Science and AI is a free professional development course designed specifically for A level and Further Mathematics teachers. Across five online sessions and one in-person study day, you’ll explore how data analysis, machine learning, and AI are connected through core mathematical concepts.

Explore how data analysis uses maths to interpret and understand information; how machine learning builds on this by creating predictive models from data; and how AI leverages these models and mathematical foundations to mimic human intelligence and solve complex problems.

The course provides practical classroom strategies and curriculum-linked activities that empower you to show students the real-world impact of the maths they learn. By making these connections explicit, you’ll help students develop the skills and confidence they need to thrive in a data-driven future.

To help support attendance at the in-person study day, you can access a £350 teacher bursary.

Register Your Students for our Maths into Data Science and AI Course

To complement your teaching, you can register your Year 12 and 13 students for the Maths into Data Science and AI Course – an 11-week online programme designed specifically for pupils studying A level Mathematics or Further Mathematics.

Students will develop practical skills in data analysis, modelling, and ethical AI through hands-on Python coding tasks and real-world datasets from areas like the environment, sport, commerce, and demographics. The programme covers key topics such as data preparation, exploratory analysis, machine learning models, AI workings, and the ethical challenges of bias in AI.

While students can’t sign up directly, teachers can register their classes for the opportunity to deepen their understanding of how maths drives machine learning and AI, helping prepare them for future study and careers in this exciting field.

These free courses connect teacher development with student learning, helping to make the maths behind AI clear and meaningful within the classroom.
