We understand that this role presents various challenges. That’s why we’ve crafted this course to equip you with the skills required to excel as a head of department.

Course Overview

New and Aspiring Heads of Maths (HOM) will focus on exploring strategies to elevate the overall learning environment within your department. You’ll build on the leadership and management skills needed to be successful in the role and consider ways of developing potential within your team. Additionally, you’ll explore some of the more challenging aspects of the role, such as overseeing the transition from GCSE to post-sixteen maths.

The course will run over six months, featuring three study days and access to support from a dedicated course tutor. This is the ideal opportunity for those in their first few years as head of maths or teachers aspiring to advance to a head of department role in the future.

This course is free of charge to all teachers from state-funded schools and colleges in England. Schools in Targeted Support for Level 3 Maths Areas (TSMAs) are also eligible for a subsidy of £400.
