Total course length: one year

Sessions: Eight online sessions, each of length 75 minutes, accessible independently of each other.

This series of online sessions is intended to support teachers with delivering and embedding the AQA Level 2 Further Mathematics course. The course comprises a session on how to introduce and manage the course and a series focussing on specific topics which are key to the course. The topic sessions will include a combination of subject knowledge and pedagogy and will require active participation.

Sessions must be applied for independently: there is no obligation to attend all sessions. Sessions will not be recorded, but a PDF of the resources used will be available afterwards for all qualifying teachers who registered for the session.

Course length: One term, weekly sessions

SKL | Higher GCSE topics through mathematical thinking is a live online professional development course in our Subject Knowledge Live suite: the synchronous sessions will concentrate on the modelling of subject knowledge delivery including the use of technology.

We will focus on supporting teachers who are developing their students’ mathematical thinking skills, particularly as they introduce higher-tier topics that are vital for students who may go on to study Core Maths, AS/A level Mathematics or Further Mathematics.

The course develops strategies and ideas for taking a piece of mathematics and extending it, exploring the connections which deepen understanding and develop fluency, and which can be used immediately in the classroom. There will be opportunities to consider how these concepts and resources could be embedded in professional practice and contribute towards the ambition and intent of the department’s curriculum.

Course features:

  • Eight online sessions, approximately weekly, each up to 90 minutes long
  • A year of access to resources and recordings of the live sessions

Teaching with Desmos webinars

The Desmos Graphing Calculator is a free tool that can be used on laptops, tablets and phones.

In 2024, the AMSP hosted a series of webinars exploring how the effective use of Desmos can help to deepen students’ understanding of topics in GCSE and A level Mathematics.

The webinars will support you in developing your use of the Desmos graphing calculator or the Desmos geometry tool. These are very easy-to-use tools that will help you to integrate the use of technology into both your GCSE and A level mathematics lessons.
