The Girls’ Progression Programme is a fully funded initiative for eligible secondary schools, designed to increase girls’ participation in maths beyond GCSE.
Working directly with school leaders and maths teams, the programme supports schools to embed evidence-informed strategies that build confidence, raise aspirations and help more girls see where maths can take them. Up to 200 schools can take part in the programme.

Why is this needed?
In 2025, only 37.2% of A level Mathematics students were female, even though maths plays a big role in shaping future careers and opportunities.
Many students and parents may not realise how much maths can help individuals, society, and future careers. Studying maths can lead to STEM jobs, higher salaries, and a wide range of opportunities.
The Girls Progress Programme is working with eligible schools to help boost girls’ confidence, remove barriers to participation, and encourage more students to keep studying maths. The goal is to help build a fairer society.

A place for teachers to access informal support, ask questions, share ideas, learn from each other and be a part of something bigger. Includes a termly bulleting packed full of ideas and resources.
Professional development webinars
Available to schools participating in the GPP community, supporting teachers to embed practical strategies for girls’ progression.
Enrichment event open to all State-funded schools
We also run an enrichment event open to all state-funded schools as part of our Encouraging Girls’ Participation work.

You can take part at no cost because the programme is fully funded as part of the AMSP.
We provide participating schools with tailored support from an AMSP Local Lead, access to professional development, opportunities to join the GPP community, invitations to student enrichment days, and resources to use with teachers, students, and parents.
Yes. Schools that are not funded for direct local support can still access many parts of the AMSP toolkit through the Encouraging girls’ participation webpage.
